Accrual Basis

An accounting practice whereby expenses and income are processed as they are earned or incurred, rather than deferring the posting until a later date. Whether or not they have actually been received or paid, they are still recorded, and in this way companies can keep income and expenses up to date. This form of accounting is popular in most types of business.
