Capital Expenditure

A business cost that adds value to fixed assets. Referred to as ‘capex’, capital expenditures are costs relating to repairs, maintenance and upgrades to buildings, machinery or other long-term company investments. The capex cost is not taxable in the current tax year, but is depreciated over the life of the fixed asset it relates to.
