Behaviourally Anchored Rating Scales (BARS)
A framework used to rate and critically appraise an employee’s performance. The BARS system is a combination of the critical incident and rating scale methods for appraisal. Employees are rated on a scale, but the individual points on the scale are defined using everyday job-related incidents (both desirable and non-desirable), rather than abstract or general traits.
